Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) is a clinical modality where low-frequency sound is applied directly to the body through specialized transducers embedded in mats, chairs, or beds. Unlike auditory stimulation, VAT physically vibrates cellular structures.
Primary Mechanisms
- Vasodilation: Mechanical agitation of the vascular endothelium promotes nitric oxide release, improving local blood flow.
- Spasmolysis: Low-frequency vibration (specifically around 40Hz - 60Hz) disrupts the stretch reflex arc, reducing muscle spasticity in conditions like cerebral palsy and Parkinson's.
